WHEN PICKING THE TOOLS FOR YOUR HEALING

Movement and breathwork practices can be wonderful supports — but if they were not part of your life before, it might be wise not to jump into them just because they are trending or your therapist / doctor told you so.

Our nervous systems don’t respond to what is popular or to new instagram trends.
They respond to what is familiar.

Before trying something new, it can be deeply helpful to remember your natural resources — the ones your body already knows how to use. The ones it relied on in the past, maybe as kid, maybe as a teenager, young adult. What are your good memories, what were you doing?  It is not about perfect reactration, rather it is about listening and attuning what felt nice and can I try a tiny bit of it again?

They might not look impressive or “healing” but they offer something much more important: a sense of safety for your nervous system.

Maybe it was walking.
Maybe it was lying down.
Maybe it was humming.
Maybe it was staring out the window.
Maybe it was wrapping yourself in a blanket.
Maybe it was being near animals.
Maybe it was drawing, cleaning, rocking, daydreaming

And slowly, first of all building the foundation with resources your already have and your nervous system trust them, you will be able to add a tiny bits of new practices into your toolkit. But remember - safety, slowness, attuning comes first.

Why?

Trying new body-based practices can sometimes stir up buried emotions, sensations, and memories. The nervous system has to have access to self regulation first to process and integrate them safely. So when this happens too fast, it can become overwhelming rather than supportive.

Healing doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from doing what your system can actually process and integrate.
